Soto Betawi - unbeautiful, but so delicious, and the type of warm that heats you from the inside. Perfect for the cold winter months. Basically beef curry, though Indonesians and curry experts would probably disagree.
Boil chunks of beef till tender; add a couple of tomatoes, a big potato, the seasoning (Bumbu Munik), and coconut milk for extra richness.
Being unused to the super-strong flavors of Indonesian fare, we only used half of the flavoring…weak sauce, I know. But still good! We’re definitely using the rest soon.
